Mushroom House (Bell Pavilion) – A watercolor and ink sketch of the iconic “Mushroom House” tucked against the cliffs of Black’s Beach in La Jolla, California. Built in the 1960s as a private beach retreat, the circular concrete pavilion earned its nickname from its distinctive mushroom-like roof. Isolated at the base of sandstone cliffs and often accessed by tram from the top, the structure has become a coastal landmark blending mid-century modern design with seaside ruggedness.
Sketched on location as part of my Drawn There series, this artwork captures the play of light on the cliffs, the graffiti-marked walls, and the unique architectural character of this hidden gem along San Diego’s shoreline.
